Joseph Smith Jr, Prophet and Leader
Joseph Smith was an American Mormon Prophet who founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As a boy, him and his family experienced the poverty and hardships of life on a rough frontier, being in Palmyra, N.Y. He had many visions and angels come to him while he was both young and old. In 1827, Joseph unearthed ancient golden plates inscribed with sacred translatings. With the help of, Oliver Cowdery, Martin Harris, one of his wives, Emma Smith, and others transcribed these records from the gold plates. Therefore the Book of Mormon was published in 1830. The Mormon Prophet promised believers the Kingdom of God on earth, and thousands of converts followed him. But many nonbelievers perceived Joseph Smith as an arrogant, and they would stop at nothing to silence him.
Many trials and afflictions with neighbors led him to move places and hide. Joseph had been arrested many times, but escaped. Not just the Smith household was forced to leave places due to safety reasons, but Josephs faithful followers were driven from their homes as well. Joseph did not hate the nonbelievers of the Mormons, and meant no harm to anyone. Joseph Smith is a major part in the LDS religion still to this day. Fun Fact: Joseph Smith Jr. was the fifth of eleven children of Joseph Smith and Lucy Mack. |
